Dear MIT colleagues,
As we work to advance our vision for a more welcoming and inclusive MIT, I am excited to share the news that MindHandHeart (MHH)—a coalition of students, faculty and staff working to strengthen the fabric of our community—will become an integral component of the Institute Community and Equity Office (ICEO), effective immediately.
Since its launch in 2015, MHH has promoted health and wellbeing across our campus. And its Department Support Program has helped our academic units make inspiring strides in addressing issues of culture and climate. Executive Administrator Maryanne Kirkbride—the mind, hand and heart of MHH—will become Deputy ICEO, positioning her even more centrally in MIT’s efforts toward lasting progress.
Beatriz Cantada, so vital to our diversity, equity and inclusion programs, will become Director of Engagement for Diversity and Inclusion, assuming a more active leadership role in coordinating employee resource groups and DEI training efforts across the Institute.
I can imagine no greater partner than MHH as we work to develop a campus-wide DEI strategy, and look forward to the progress we will make together in the years ahead. Please join me in thanking and congratulating Maryanne and Beatriz as they begin their new roles.
All of the best,
