Minoo Emami (fine artist) will present on her current work:

Art as Manifesto

A primary function of art is the engagement and involvement of the human spirit. The purpose of war is to injure or destroy the body and spirit. My art lies at the intersection of these conflicting dualities and embodies the tensions. As art seeks to transcend that which would hold it down, war works to hold down that which would transcend it and my art seeks the expression of that contradiction- of human nature and the consequence of war.  It is a mixture of healing & hurting, hope and despair, intimacy & loneliness. I aim to transform the harsh realities of war into objects of beauty. Through the portrayal and utilization of used prostheses, my art, then is both profane and sacred.

Lunch will be served, please RSVP to erneill@mit.edu and note dietary restrictions
